Main rules
The Rules of Tien Len can be found on John McLeod's fantastic site pagat.com, which I'll use as the main source for card game rules and also will link to for all the card games added here.
Deal
It is possible to play with either two players, three players, or four players. In the case of two or three players, 17 cards will be dealt; four players will get 13 cards each. This is the default, although it can be changed under the Game options tab.
Game start
A game will start when ALL sitting players are "ready", so if you are a host and want to play a four player game, you should be the last player to click "ready" when everybody is sitting and ready, to prevent premature starts of two or three player games.
Instant win
There are no conditions under which an instant win can be achieved. A hand containing all 2s does not automatically win the game.
Combo exceptions
As described on pagat.com's Tien Len rules, the only exceptions when it comes to combo responses are the ones involving single, double, or triple 2s.
Additional game options
As requested by users, some other game options have been made available to users by clicking the Game options button on the left hand side of the window. The variants are as follows:
2s in seq: Allows 2s to be included in sequences; e.g. Q-K-A-2 is acceptable.
3S starts: Forces the player with the 3 of Spades to play first.
4 beats 6: Allows a four-of-a-kind to beat a sequence of 3 pairs.
17 cards: This is set as default. If it is unchecked, then 13 cards will be dealt to all players, regardless of the number of players at the table. By default, 17 cards will be dealt if 2 or 3 players are present.
show cards: This is set as default. If it is unchecked, then the cards of the loser are not shown. Otherwise, they will be shown once the game is over.
Turn propagation
Normally, the only player left without passing wins a round and gets to play a new combo, of course. But what if that player won with the last combo he/she put and everybody else passes?
The first idea that leaps to mind is to just shift the turn to the next clockwise player, but this proved to be a very unfair rule. For instance, that player may have passed much earlier than the player on the right of the finishing player.
This is why Dracis keeps a list of the last players who put a combo. It will always pick the player who put the last combo down before the other player finished. This propagates correctly, should many players finish in that fashion.
Time limit
If a time limit is set and the time runs out for a player, then all players see a Force Pass button, and any other player can force the player to pass the turn. This button actually enforces a pass, it doesn't just try to remind the player or anything.
