About
Motivation
Dracis is a free online card/board game community. The general goal is to provide an environment in which you can play card games with your friends or people from all over the world. Hopefully, the number of games added over time will grow steadily, including also less well-known and less popular games than those you find online today.
Dracis also was created because of the frustration with existing card games online. We found most of the interfaces we came across awfully user-UNfriendly, ugly and annoying. It just never felt like a fun game with friends, it didn't look nice, and it wasn't comfortable to play.
While the current interfaces are far from perfect, we're always open for suggestions. see the Contact and Support sections for more info. You can also check out Screenshots to compare Dracis with other online games.
Name
The etymology of the name Dracis is mostly arbitrary. The original game engine was called 'iCards'. However, that name was taken already and a *tad* too popular on google. "Dracis", then, was the first anagram of iCards that sounded cool and also was very rare on google.
Some googling reveals some usages of "Dracis" in other contexts: a few sources claim it is the possessive case of "draco", Latin for "dragon". This seems to be incorrect, as the genitive of "draco" would be "draconis". (Correct me if I'm wrong.)
If anyone knows some languages or other curious links to the word, feel free to tell us about it, or just add to this page directly.
Last but not least, the fact that the word reminds one of "dragon" (and it does sound quite Latinish) is also the reason for the wing in the logo.
